On November 09, 2022 IBM announced the largest qubit count of any IBM quantum processor with its new 433-quantum qubit processor IBM Osprey, more than tripling the 127 qubits on the IBM Eagle processor unveiled in 2021. This is the fourth milestone in the race for ‘quantum supremacy’. It reveals how rapidly quantum computing is progressing. Only in 2021 IBM has reported a claim for ‘quantum supremacy’. It represented the third time the claim for ‘quantum supremacy’ has been reported, following USTC’s and Google’s celebrated announcements in 2021/2019. But what does ‘quantum supremacy’ mean for blockchain-based cryptographic cyphers, where having a highly efficient machine gives you an edge over everyone else? What should boards do to achieve crypto agility?

In this keynote, Victoria Riess will explain quantum computing, ‘quantum supremacy’ and  blockchain-based cryptographic cyphers in an understandable and entertaining way. I will also introduce the biggest danger to blockchain-based cryptographic cyphers from ‘quantum supremacy’.
