Tallinn - the capital of Estonia - is the economic as well as the cultural center of the country and with about 500,000 inhabitants the largest city in Estonia. The city is located in the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea, about 80 kilometers south of Helsinki.
Until 1918, the name of the city was Reval. However, the city has borne the name Tallinn since the conquest by the Danish King Waldemar in 1219. The capital of the country is divided into the municipalities Haabersti, Kesklinn, Kristiine, Lasnamäe, Mustamäe, Nõmme, Pirita and Põhja-Tallinn and 84 districts.
The Estonian capital is the economically strongest city in Estonia. About 60 percent of GDP comes from businesses in Tallinn. The low tax burden and liberal economic system offer attractive conditions for companies.
Well-known companies in the region are: Nokia, Philips or Ericson. The free VoIP software Skype was also developed in Tallinn.
In Tallinn's Old Town - a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 - you will find quiet and charming accommodation and hotels. In addition, there are also excellent meeting and conference hotels with the best facilities and ideal connections to the public transport system and the various sights, as well as restaurants and bars for an evening get-together with colleagues.
