Hobart - meeting destination in Tasmania (Australia)

Hobart or Hobart Town is the capital of Tasmania. The city of 200,000 inhabitants is located at the mouth of the Derwent River at the foot of the 1.271 meter high Mount Wellington in the southern part of the island.

Hobart is the second oldest city in Australia after Sydney and was founded as a convict colony. Today, only silent witnesses tell of the past. In the meantime, Hobart has become the economic center of the island - where an international seaport is located and numerous industrial plants are situated. The region's economic sectors include zinc smelting, shipbuilding and viticulture.

The city is also characterized by a distinctive art and culture scene as well as an extremely attractive recreational area in the immediate vicinity. In 2010, the city was named Australia's 6th most environmentally friendly and sustainable city by the Australian Conservation Foundation.

In the center of the busy, yet manageable and relaxed city, you will find numerous modern and top-equipped conference hotels for your visit to Tasmania.
